City Creek Mall and Cheesecake! Mmm

Mine and Marcus' hands on our way to Utah!

Maddy sleeping on the way down to Utah. She feel asleep leaning forward. What a cutie!

This last week has been great! I was stressed at the beginning of it because we were embarking on a huge adventure with our little one who is only 4.5 months. Surprisingly she was very good on the drive down to Utah. When we got to Utah we stayed with Caroline and Nick! We missed them so much! They are having a baby in November. We get to find out the sex today! She is so stinkin' cute with her pregnant belly. I kinda miss that, but at the same time I am so excited to be able to go to Six Flags on Friday with Alicia and actually ride the roller coasters. It will be so much fun! While we visited Caroline we went to the City Creek Mall, a new mall in Salt Lake City. It was huge and beautiful! There were tons of water features, including a waterfall that Maddy just loved to death. There were two things wrong with the mall though; 1) There were no rentable strollers for us to rent for Madeline, so we had to carry her everywhere, and 2) It was WAY expensive! Caroline baught three water bottles (Nestle brand) for $7.00! Are you kidding me?! No. Anyway, it was nice.

Me, Maddy, and Caroline waiting for our slices of Cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory

Diving in! We had Raspberry Lemon and Dulce de Leche! DIVINE.

Half Eaten.

We went to Macy's and there was a Sattle display. We couldn't resist putting Maddy on.

This is Caroline holding all the stuff while I took pictures and Marcus held Maddy. Everything was about to fall!

This is a beautiful little flower garden at the mall.
We had so much fun with Caroline. Later that night we hung out with our other friends Lauren and Bruce, and Lauren and Caroline's sister Holly came with her fiance and three of their kids. Holly's husband died last year and it is so wonderful to see her continuing to live life. Her new man is fun and kind.

Marcus and Bruce really hit it off. They talked for so long about economics...And the girls talked about having babies and labor. It was a good time.

A Ray of Hope Despite the Failing Government

Dear Everyone,

I feel like we are stuck in a black hole... this hole is the government and all the c-r-a-p that we have to deal with because of it. I just feel like we are doomed. Government wants to control every aspect of everything...except as members of the church, "We believe that governments were instituted of God for the benefit of man; and that he holds men accountable for their acts in relation to them, both in making laws and administering them, for the good and safety of society. . . .We believe that all men are bound to sustain and uphold the respective governments in which they reside, while protected in their inherent and inalienable rights by the laws of such governments; and that sedition and rebellion are unbecoming every citizen thus protected, and should be punished accordingly; and that all governments have a right to enact such laws as in their own judgments are best calculated to secure the public interest; at the same time, however, holding sacred the freedom of conscience. We believe that every man should be honored in his station, rulers and magistrates as such, being placed for the protection of the innocent and the punishment of the guilty; and that to the laws all men show respect and deference, as without them peace and harmony would be supplanted by anarchy and terror; human laws being instituted for the express purpose of regulating our interests as individuals and nations, between man and man; and divine laws given of heaven, prescribing rules on spiritual concerns, for faith and worship, both to be answered by man to his Maker" (D&C 134:1, 5-6).

In this day, governments are seeking to fulfill their own agendas. The UN is seeking to become a global government by getting every country to agree to the Law of Sea Treaty. This law would give the UN access to control every nation's trade. Also, it was found out about a month ago that President Barak Obama is not a citizen of the United States, or at least has no documentation. His birth cirtificate was found not to be able to hold up in court. What?! It's true. Why the *bad word* is he still in the presidency? Why hasn't he been impeached? There are many other things that that man is doing to make our government/nation vulnerable to attack; not just attack from other nations, but attack by immorality.

We can see the attack on the family ever clearer now. I would like to remind everyone of The Family: A Proclamation to the World. It's not that we do not love every single person, but does loving them mean we have to agree with their every thought, their every opinion? No. I can remember the days when I full heartedly disagreed with my parents telling me to go to bed, or that I could not attend a party. We still love each other. Same gender marriage is not of God; it never has been and never can be. We read about it in the Bible, and we read about it in the other standard works of the church. Our prophets and apsotles have been preparing us for this war on the family for a long time. It was 1995 when the Proclamation came out. We are seeing a need for it now in the year 2012. Seventeen years in advance Heavenly Father saw a need to warn us. Since that warning many things have happened. There has been a great falling away from the church because members have ceased supporting the prophet who would never lead us wrong. When a prophet gives specific direction on a matter (which such blunt instruction is so rare) we best do it because it is important and it is the Lord's will. When our wills are aligned with His will, we will be blessed. But since that warning the rising generation is getting stronger and resilient in the way of the Lord.

My ray of hope is this email sent by my dear friend Meeshell Jewell who is serving a full time mission for our church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in the West Indies. She says:

This week started off a little rough but at the end Sister Dayton and I had the great opportunity to witness a miracle. This miracle is a woman named Maria. This is how we found her.
We were driving to an area where we would be finding people for the day. While driving we were sharing about some individuals we taught and baptized in our last areas and how they loved learning about the gospel. So much that they would almost beg for lessons. Of course, begging was never nessesary since we would always freely and gratefully give them. While speaking of these choice individuals we asked, "Why can't we teach people like that here? People who actually want to see us?" At that point I pleaded with Heavenly Father to please help us.
Then we pulled up to our regular parking spot for that area. As we pulled up, the security gaurd standing in the booth in front of us looked at us. I smiled and waved at her. She smiled a very friendly smile and waved back. Sister Dayton and I prayed and then got out of the car. We walked over to the security gaurd to chat with her. As I walked up to her booth she said, "Missionaries! Come in! Come in!" She said she had seen us praying in the car and she knew we had to be missionaries. Although, she did not know which church we were from. We introduced ourselves and included how we are from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She said very softly, as if to herself, and almost contemplatively, "I go to the 'Church of God' but I like that its Jesus Christ's church. They don't really talk about that."
We proceeded and taught her about the restoration. She was very excited and so happy. She loved reading her bible and had it there with her to read at work. She described when she read her bible that she just felt filled. She said that everyone would ask her why she's so happy and she says it is because she has the Spirit of the Lord in her. She obviously recieves that Holy Spirit from reading her bible so much and living in accordance with it. She loves the book of Isaiah. She told us a lot about her husband and about how much she loves him.
As we went over through the lesson about the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ she listened very carefully. She understood better than anyone I have ever taught. When we talked about the Priesthood she said, "Like Melchezdik." And when we taught her about the great of apostasy and basically the absense of that Priesthood Authority. She told us that her husband had once told her regarding churches, "You know, none of them have it right."
After learning about the restoration of that Priesthood she was excited and wanted to be baptized.
After the lesson, Sister Dayton and I went and had lunch at the park she was the security gaurd for. While walking back past her booth she had already read through the pamphlet and was then reading the definitions in the back. Which she was very happy for.
We went out for a few hours teaching whoever would listen to us. When we arrived back at the car, where her booth was, she had already begun reading the Book of Mormon. And she asked us when we could come back and if we could come back the next day.
Now, the greatest part about this is: it gets better.
Our new mission presdient, President Mehr and his wife Sister Mehr were visiting for the weekend getting to know the island and missionaries. We invited Sister Mehr to come with us to teach Maria while President was in meetings.
There are not words to describe how truly inspiring this lesson was but I will share with you some of the things Maria shared with us.
Maria had already read halfway through the Book of Mormon and had begun reading it from the begining again. She said while tenderly holding the Book of Mormon in her arms, "It is the most magnificant book! I cherish it." She also told us referring to the day before, "Before I even read the book, when you were talking with me God told me, 'Welcome to the truth" She said, "I always knew there was more". When we invited her to begin thinking and praying about baptism she said, "Can I be baptized next month? Is that too soon?" Of course that is not too soon we told her and we will help her.

She was so grateful for us and told us that she would not have gotten it if she had just read the track (pamphlet). But when we shared with her about the gospel she was able to carry it deep into her heart. She told us, "Everyone else preaches, you teach so I understand."

She wants us to bring her tracks about the restoration so she can share it with all her friends and explain to them like it was explained to her. She said, "They need to know the truth. Their blinded".

Maria has such strong faith of anyone I have ever met. She has a strong relationship with our Father in Heaven and it was evident. She told us things about the gospel that we have not even mentioned yet. Hearing her talk the Spirit was so strong tears filled my eyes. After, Sister Dayton, Sister Mehr and I were amazed, almost dumbfounded. Never having experiencing a lesson such as that. A miracle.

The Lord truly guides us to those who are seeking. Those who know, "There has to be more".
Sincerely,

Sister Jewell

This lady, Maria, and the missionaries are the only thing that give me hope because somehow truth and righteousness will conquer all. Maria is an example of those that are ready and willing to accept the will of the Lord, and the missionaries are an example of the hard work, dedication, and sacrifice that goes in to feeding the souls of men for our Spirits need strengthening just as much as our bodies need it.
My mom told me a quote that President Spencer W. Kimball said, "tend your own garden." This means to take care of your family. Raise them in righteousness. Do the work you have been called to in the ward you have been assigned to. Then expand to your neighborhood. In other words, "lift where you stand."

Two great talks related to this post are:
The False Gods We Worship and Lift Where You Stand.

I am sorry of this was heavy to read, but I needed to get my feelings out of my head and off my chest.

Love,
Christiana

Random Thoughts on Some Religious Stuff

Unit 2:1 “Keep Yourselves in the Love of God”

Those that are sanctified by God the Father and preserved in Jesus Christ will have mercy, peace, and love multiplied to them if they contend for their faith. The appropriate ways to contend for our faith include: doing missionary work, fulfilling callings to the best of your ability, going visiting teaching, talk about Christ, do as He would do, serve our fellow beings, and be kind to everyone.

The “first estate” is referring to our premortal existence. There were a third of God’s children who followed Satan into darkness and chose not to go with the Plan. All those who are on this Earth, have been on this Earth, or who will be on this Earth with mortal bodies are those who, while in the first estate, accepted God’s Plan.

Moses was a righteous man, but there was this one instance in his life that he murdered an Egyptian. Satan tries to claim Moses’ body after he was to die because he feels that because Moses committed such a grievous sin that he would be damned. That is what the argument in Jude is about concerning Moses, Satan, and Michael, the archangel. We learn from “The Assumption of Moses,” an Apocryphal book that was not canonized because it was not felt to be correct in every particular even if we did learn some truths from it.

We, as Latter-Day Saints believe that the bible is true as far as it is translated correctly (Article of Faith 1:8). This means that there are even some things in the bible we are unsure of, but as much of the bible that has been translated correctly is what we believe to be the word of God as much as the Book of Mormon is the word of God.

Walk in Truth

Unit 1:6 “Walk in Truth”

In 3 John 1:1-11 we read about two men; Gaius and Diotrephes. The difference between these two men is that Gaius was a righteous man, always striving to do what was right. He was charitable, faithful in his actions toward his fellow men, and seeking nothing for his own. Diotrephes, on the other hand, was a very wordly man, used harsh and malicious words to the members, and he rejected the brethren.

To those who criticize the leaders of the church; there are some results that come of this which include: cutting the thread that binds you to the prophet, sinking yourself to hell, spiritual sickness which eventually brings spiritual death, and bring upon themselves hurt.

Because of the examples that these two men, some would do well and prosper by following Gaius and others would suffer and fall away becoming hard to the truth by following Diotrephes. If someone is supposed to be acting one way because of their supposed beliefs, it will lead away many people into unrighteousness.

Life Isn't Fair.

Life Isn’t Fair. Why Do I Have to Have So Many Trials?
One phrase that I hear over and over again, not just from those around me, but also by myself is “life isn’t fair.” It’s true… life isn’t fair. On one spectrum bad things happen to good people all the time; like me and my husband getting scammed $2200 (our whole savings). On another spectrum we have our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who suffered all sins, sicknesses, and afflictions of every kind; he being the perfect man[1]. So, why do we have so many trials?
The scriptures give us a lot of insight on these glorious “blessings in disguise”, you could say. In 1 Peter we read that “That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.”[2] Trials are given to us for the salvation of our souls. Another thing that we learn from 1 Peter is that through our trials, by choosing to do good, we glorify God, and that by doing good things foolish people will be silenced[3]. God appreciates when we deal with our trials with patience[4].
Sometimes we worry about being ridiculed by those that do not keep the commandments. We learn in 1 Peter that the Lord watches over us[5] and that if we tell of God that we will be happy[6]. We also learn that when people speak badly of us because we talk about Christ, that they will be ashamed[7]. Trials are for our good. They help us become stronger and better people. We learn from them, and we become more like Christ when we repent and remember our Lord and Savior.

Last Thursday we celebrated Sabrina's 22 birthday with a surprise birthday party! It was fun, and Zach did a great job. He was a good hubby.
This is the most delicious cake that I made! It's a Better Than Sex Cake.

My cute girl. How can she get cuter?!

Good friend Alden loving Maddy.

I love it when my friends cherish my baby. :)

This is a picture of the streamers that we set up. Marcus made the bow in the middle.

I was putting her to sleep. The party wore her out. I also LOVE this picture.

4th of July Fun!

Dear Friends,

This is the second to last week of classes for this semester! Woo! How many more to go? I have only ten more classes that I need to take. It is great. It will take me a year and a half to complete them all, though one of them is my student teaching which is ten credits in itself.

I have to take three Math Diagnostic tests to prove to the administration that I am worth not having to apply for my major. I feel like I should be grandfathered in since I've been in the program since 2008, but it's a new standard this year where anyone who wants the ECSE degree has to apply to get into the program. If I don't prove myself with these tests I have to apply to the program. But, I have passed two of three. I've been studying my butt off. Here's another quirk: If I do not pass I have to take another college algebra class. Goodness. I chose this major so I wouldn't have to deal with math anymore. Oh well. It is what it is. Plus I feel awesome about myself after working so hard to pass the first two. Hard work really does pay off.

Maddy is so funny. She gets so cranky when she is tired and that is how I know it is nap time. She sleeps in her crib really awesomely. We put her in to go to sleep and she fusses for about five to ten minutes and then she falls asleep. Today after her morning nap she was just hanging out in her crib looking at all the shadows on the walls and the different contrasts in her blanket. When I went in to get her, her cute little foot was chillin' out on the crib bumper up in the air. She was having a nice relaxing time.

I haven't written about the 4th of July yet. But we had a really wonderful day, despite the fact that it fell on a day in the middle of the week. Anna came up to spend time with us. We set her up on a blind date with Racheal and Jacob's cousin Jason. He is such a sweetheart. He might be a little too sweet for Anna. I mean, I just think she wants a guy that will give her some competition. She is competitive by nature. Anyhoo, they went on a lunch date and had a nice time. I hope it turns into something. They both think each other are attractive, but love doesn't exist solely on attraction. After lunch they joined George and Brian on a ride down the river using inner tubes. They seemed like they had a good time...especially when they all came home to my bedroom while I was sleeping and decided to stay there and chat about their good time... I thought it was more funny than rude, but I wouldn't make it a habit of going into married couple's bedrooms unannounced...While they were being adventurous single folk, Marcus and I stayed in Rexburg and went to the parade with Madeline. She liked getting out and about in her stroller. She especially liked meeting new friends, Stephanie and Bryce Tarnaski. They were some old friend of our from our last ward. They are pretty awesome and I haven't seen them since before Maddy was born. She is such a little social bug; always taking to new people. Plus she loves being held and talked to. While we were at the parade we walked around the park where there were a bunch of booths that vendors had set up. I walked up to this old man who had several STUNNING pressed flowers situated in various designs in gorgeous frames. They were expensive though. I tried convincing Marcus to get me one, but I failed. He told me he would rather buy me a flower press so I could do several by myself. I wonder if I asked for one if he would get it for me... He said he would rather, right? haha.

We met up with everyone (George, Brian, Anna, Jason, and our friend Spencer) at around 6pm to have a barbeque at the park. It was such a lovely evening. I made my mamma's Potato Salad, and We got some meat that took forever to cook on the park grill. It was delicious. Anna made this jello salad which was a bit of a flop since there wasn't really enough time to let it sit, but it still had good flavor. The men brought chips, and Spencer made Slutty Brownies. I did not partake, though I regret it now. I was just not in the sugary mood at all. I really only had a sugar tooth while I was pregnant. Anna left early to go back to Provo.

The rest of us headed over to the brother's apartment to watch a movie in their lounge. We decided on the movie Man on a Ledge. It was pretty suspenseful. During this time Maddy was falling asleep on Papa. It was the first time that she didn't want me when she went to sleep. I was a little jealous, but it was so adorable to see her cuddling with Marcus. I think she may be a Daddy's girl. Aww.

Marcus went down the slide with Maddy.
We had a great day and fun with family and friends!

Modern Day Problems Solved Through the Scriptures

1.       How to solve certain issues pertaining to the gospel using the scriptures:
·         People sometimes argue and complain over petty matters in church meetings or throughout the week.
o To solve this issue the scriptures recommend esteeming others as thyself through obedience and humility. We should not murmur (talk behind people’s backs), or dispute.
·         Many youth feel that their parents’ testimony is sufficient for them. Since they have good parents they rely on them for spiritual strength.
o To these individuals the scriptures say to work out your own salvation for yourself, trust God and let the Spirit that dwells in you speak to you, take action in developing your own faith.
·         An investigator is considering joining the church, but their family will no longer associate with them if they do.
o To these individuals the scriptures say that loss is in Christ. He takes all our losses and makes them pluses. Look to the future, and have faith. Let Christ be thy strength.
·         How is this writing assignment an example to the principal taught in 2 Ne 32:3?
o The spirit will guide you to the things you ought to know and the principals that will teach you in that moment.

Greater Than Angels

·         Jesus Christ is superior to:
o the angels
o Moses
o the high priests of the Law of Moses
o Aaron
o Abraham.
·         Paul taught many truths about the Savior Jesus Christ, some specifically from Hebrews 1. Three of them are:
o God and Jesus Christ are separate beings. In verses one through three it reads:
God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.
o God never changes. (Hebrews 1:12)
o God is forever. (Hebrews 1:8)
·         God came to earth to experience mortality so he had the ability to taste death for every man. How could an immortal being die? That is why He was given mortality; why he passed through the veil to this world. He wanted to give us a way out of eternal death and tribulation through the grace of God. The way to be saved through His grace, however, is through our willingness to repent and humble ourselves before the Lord.

We Got Scammed

Well, long story short, we got scammed and lost $2200.00 which we had been saving to purchase a car. Please visit our donation page and donate as much as you can. Thank you.
