Life Isn’t Fair. Why Do I Have to Have So Many Trials?
One phrase
that I hear over and over again, not just from those around me, but also by
myself is “life isn’t fair.” It’s true… life isn’t fair. On one spectrum bad
things happen to good people all the time; like me and my husband getting
scammed $2200 (our whole savings). On another spectrum we have our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ who suffered all sins, sicknesses, and afflictions of every
kind; he being the perfect man[1].
So, why do we have so many trials?
The
scriptures give us a lot of insight on these glorious “blessings in disguise”,
you could say. In 1 Peter we read that “That the trial of your faith, being
much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire,
might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus
Christ: Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing,
ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.”[2]
Trials are given to us for the salvation of our souls. Another thing that we
learn from 1 Peter is that through our trials, by choosing to do good, we
glorify God, and that by doing good things foolish people will be silenced[3].
God appreciates when we deal with our trials with patience[4].
Sometimes
we worry about being ridiculed by those that do not keep the commandments. We
learn in 1 Peter that the Lord watches over us[5]
and that if we tell of God that we will be happy[6].
We also learn that when people speak badly of us because we talk about Christ,
that they will be ashamed[7].
Trials are for our good. They help us become stronger and better people. We learn
from them, and we become more like Christ when we repent and remember our Lord
and Savior.
