Unit 1:6 “Walk in Truth”
In 3 John 1:1-11 we read about two men; Gaius and
Diotrephes. The difference between these two men is that Gaius was a righteous
man, always striving to do what was right. He was charitable, faithful in his
actions toward his fellow men, and seeking nothing for his own. Diotrephes, on
the other hand, was a very wordly man, used harsh and malicious words to the
members, and he rejected the brethren.
To those who criticize the leaders of the church; there are
some results that come of this which include: cutting the thread that binds you
to the prophet, sinking yourself to hell, spiritual sickness which eventually
brings spiritual death, and bring upon themselves hurt.
Because of the examples that these two men, some would do
well and prosper by following Gaius and others would suffer and fall away
becoming hard to the truth by following Diotrephes. If someone is supposed to
be acting one way because of their supposed beliefs, it will lead away many
people into unrighteousness.
